Nothing special other than tomorrow I am off duty :-) yeah, I know, but it is a big deal here in Kenya. That is why.
Let us talk. Not about Eurobond, Chicken and other Mega scandals that bedevil Kenyans day in day out. Not that. PLEASE!!! I think I am one Kenyan if I hear one more scandal I will faint! :/
Let us talk about endless cases of domestic abuse that are fatal. Let us try and understand what goes on in the minds of the affected and victims prior to the deadly actions. There are always those tell-tale signs that the story is not going to have the 'happily-ever-after' kind of ending. Rarely will someone take a knife and drive it through the heart of someone they have professed an endless love time and again and worse share the same blanket if not breath the same air for a long time.
Let us talk about the senseless deaths that we have been seeing on our prime time news. I have always thought that one would let a friend, a neighbor, a colleague or a sibling know of what is going on in the marriage. Young lovers have not been spared this madness either! Have we become a society that turns a blind eye to the suffering or are those affected too afraid of how the society will judge them once they walk out of the marriages or relationships? Why wait until an innocent baby is hacked to death by a crazy father or mother? or maimed!! Either way, I believe it is a high time the church intervenes and the society stopped being too judgmental. I am not sure of the role of the government in this, they have more than they can 'chew'. It is campaign time and Kenyans are least of their worries.
What would happen if we all cared about each other to a point where one would know if something was not 'adding' up. This would be better than those tales we hear when it is over, like for instance you would hear of 'I was her closest sister and she did not confide in me' or 'how could that have happened and I was with her yesterday?'
I think all we need to do is care a little more...Love a little more, smile a little more to a stranger....We need to be tolerant of others, mostly those that come out of abusive marriages and show that we care for them...we need to stop being suspicious of every little thing. This way there will be less and less domestic abuse in marriages that may lead to unnecessary deaths.
Kenyans, Let us talk about these things. It is one way of addressing the ISSUE.
